About the InCAEM SPM platform

The Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM) platform is part of the Infrastructure for Correlative Analysis of Energy Materials (InCAEM) project, within the Advanced Materials program of the “Planes Complementarios de I+D+I of the Plan de Recuperación, Transformación y Resiliencia” (PRTR) in collaboration with the ALBA synchrotron. The subproject includes the installation of a multipurpose atomic force microscope (mp-AFM). The objective of the SPM platform is to offer a wide range of correlative advanced characterization of materials for energy by means of a variety of AFM operation modes and under different operation environments. The high flexibility of the mp-AFM will permit correlative experiments with specific beamlines of the synchrotron ALBA.

The SPM laboratory technician will be incorporated to the Physical Chemistry of Surfaces and Interfaces (PCSI) group at ICMAB-CSIC (https://surfaces.icmab.es/)

Job description

Job description

Full time work contract.

  • Installation of the commercial mp-AFM and supplies systems.
  • Testing of the different operation modes under diverse environmental conditions to assure full functionality.
  • Adapting and optimizing user-friendly operation protocols.
  • Performing preliminary test of correlative experiments.
  • Commissioning of the instrument and perform experiments.

More details in the PCSI group NEWS.

Requirements

Candidates should hold a BSc degree (Physics, Materials Science, Nanoscience, Chemistry…). Though specific professional expertise is not required, complementary educational qualifications in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology will be considered. Previous AFM knowledge and participation in correlative experiments using synchrotron radiation facilities will be valuable. Candidates must be able to work independently and should have excellent laboratory skills. Good knowledge of English (written and spoken), proactivity, team working and strong communication skills are essential.

Documentation to be provided

Candidates should send a motivation letter and CV to: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. (Carmen Ocal, PCSI group)
Only preselected applications will get an answer and will obtain an appointment to carry out an interview.
The requirements must be met on the date of completion of the application submission period and will be accredited through the CSIC Job Bank (https://www.bolsatrabajo.csic.es/bolsa_trabajo/).

About ICMAB

The Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC) is a multidisciplinary research center focused on cutting-edge research in functional advanced materials in the fields of ENERGY, ELECTRONICS, NANOMEDICINE and application fields yet to imagine.

The ICMAB is integrated within the Barcelona Nanocluster in Bellaterra (BNC-b), a research network that includes the UAB, the CSIC (ICMAB, IMB-CNM and ICN2) and IRTA, part of the UAB Research Park of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (PRUAB) and the ALBA Synchrotron. The BNC-b aims to share advanced scientific equipment and promote and disseminate nanoscience and nanotechnology.

The ICMAB offers a complete range of scientific services, including a 10,000 class cleanroom (the Nanoquim Platform) that are open to interested parties, whether these are academic or from industry, and it participates in all kinds of educational and promotional activities. Many ICMAB researchers teach at the UAB Master's degree in Nanotechnology and Materials Science and also on the UAB degree on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.
