The Bioservice Platform is a service created in 2020 with the collaboration of the ICN2. This service provides support to the different research groups at ICMAB to perform biological assays with cells and bacteria. Experimental work is mainly carried out at the Biolab Facility (ICN2).

The Bioservice counts with an experienced technician which offers advice, training and executes the ICMAB´s researchers biological studies aimed to the characterization of new materials and devices.

Main services currently offered are:

  • Maintenance and cryopreservation of mammal cell lines and bacteria
  • Cell viability assays (XTT, Alamar Blue)
  • Antibacterial activity assays

After a first meeting, the technician evaluates with the researcher the experiments to perform and offers a quotation with the devised plans. Once the budget is accepted, the work at the Bioservice starts.

The Bioservice Facility has received funds from the CENanoTech project (2015 FEDER/S-16). In turn, the CENanoTech project is funded through the call for unique institutional R&D infrastructures launched by the Universities and Research Secretariat of the Regional Ministry of Economy and Knowledge of the Government of Catalonia, with funding received from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the Operational Programme Catalonia 2014-2020. The project has also been co-funded by the Severo Ochoa Programme, granted by the back then Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (SEV-2013-0295).
