Between March 13-15, 2018, Bilbao (Spain) hosts the 4th edition of the largest European Event in Nanoscience & Nanotechnology, ImagineNano2018, at Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC), a 3 days event to discuss the latest in Nanoscience & Nanotechnology.
Researchers from the ICMAB will be at ImagineNano 2018, presenting some of the latest and cutting-edge research projects, involving bacterial nanocellulose, atomic force microscopy, photonic architectures and superabsorbers. The CSIC also has an exhibitor stand, in which the research on microelectronics and nanomaterials will be presented.
ImagineNano 2018 is not only one single conference: 4 conferences covering hot science trends will take place in parallel at the same spot, a vast exhibition area with more than 30 exhibitors will be present, and one-to-one meetings and an industrial forum on nanotechnology will gather the global nanotechnology community, including researchers, industry policymakers and investors on this area. The 4 conferences in parallel, and the ICMAB researchers, are:
- GraphIn2018 (Graphene Industry – Challenges & Opportunities) (3rd edition)
- NanoSpain 2018 (General trends in Nanoscience & Nanotechnology) (15th edition) - Dr. Andrés Gómez (SPM Lab)
- 3PM2018 (Photonics/Phononics/Plasmonics/Magneto-Optics) (4th edition) - Camilla Dore and Pau Molet (NANOPTO Group)
- IC2 2018 (International nanoComposites Conference) - Dr. Anna Roig (NN Group)
Anna Roig, invited speaker at IC2 2018
Dr. Anna Roig, from the Nanoparticles and Nanocomposites (NN) Group, is an Invited Speaker at IC2 2018, the International nanoComposites Conference, in its first edition. She presents the talk on "Bacterial Nanocellulose: Surface Microstructuration and Composites", in which she will talk about advanced functional materials created from bacterial nanocellulose and inorganic nanoparticles, and their properties and performance in photocatalytic reactions and as culture platforms.
The International nanoComposites Conference (IC2) aims at presenting the current state of the art and the opportunities of composite nanomaterials and its industrial challenges and opportunities. A unique opportunity for the nanocomposites community to create an effective interphase between academy, industry and end-users.
Andrés Gómez at NanoSpain 2018
Andrés Gómez Rodríguez, Senior Technician at the SPM Lab, will give a talk on "Disclosing piezogeneration at the nanoscale with Direct Piezoelectric Force Microscopy" at the NanoSpain 2018 conference, in which he will show a new method of working with the AFM that enables researchers to map the piezogenerated charge of the materials.
Consolidated as a reference meeting of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (N&N) in Spain, the conference NanoSpain 2018 is not limited to a conventional presentation of ideas or results, but seeks to deepen the common themes among the participants, also serving as a link between industry and researchers. Since 2004, year the event was launched, NanoSpain conference series is now an established and well-known meeting in Spain, aiming to agglutinate and coordinate the efforts made in the field of the Nanotechnology by Spanish groups from universities, research institutes and companies.
Camilla Dore and Pau Molet at 3PM 2018
Camilla Dore and Pau Molet, PhD researchers under the supervision of Dr. Agustín Mihi at the NANOPTO group, will give two talks on "Cellulose based photonic architectures" and "Ultrathin Semiconductor Superabsorbers from the Visible to the Near Infrared", respectively, in the 3PM conference.
Camilla will present the work on cellulose photonic and plasmonic structures and their outstanding performance in several applications such as structural colours, photoluminescence enhancement and as disposable Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering substrates. Pau will present a strategy that achieves broadband optimal absorption in arbitrarily thin semiconductor materials for all energies above their bandgap.
The 3PM (phononics, photonics, plasmonics and magneto-optics conference) will cover the experimental and theoretical aspects of light interaction with nanoscale objects and nanostructured materials, focusing on dielectric materials tailored on the nanoscale, metallic materials exploiting their capability to sustain plasmon excitations, and magneto-optical materials that, on one side, allow external modification of the optical properties, and, on the other, are non-reciprocal permitting to envisage structures that are immune to backscattering. 3PM event will also explore different cutting edge research topics where phonons play a central role such as quantum photonics, nanoscale thermal transport, topological phononics, nanophononics and optomechanics.
