El proyecto innovador, presentado por el Institut de Ciència de Materials de Barcelona, se basa en el diseño de un generador, sobre la base física de un generador de DFIG de 2MW de uso habitual en aerogeneradores comerciales, convirtiéndolo en un prototipo de generador síncrono de potencia equivalente con devanado de campo superconductor.

Hi all! I'm Xavier from Molins de Rei (Barelona). After finishing with my bachelor in nanoscience at UAB, I decided to start a master in biomedicine at UB. This latter brought me to this great research center called ICMAB in order to realize my master thesis on carboranes under the supervision of Rosario Nuñez. In my spare time I enjoy reading, having a good conversation with a beer in hand and travelling.

The Magnetic Multifunctional Materials team of the Institute of Materials for Electronics and Magnetism – CNR, Parma, Italy has an open postdoctoral experts in electron microscopy and magnetism. The position regards to participate in the EU H2020 project AMPHIBIAN. AMPHIBIAN project . This project joints 11 international entities, between research, academics and industries and the main purpose is to develop and prepare novel ferrite based materials to produce free Rare Earth magnets. Susan Trolier-McKinstry, member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the ICMAB, has been appointed President of the Materials Research Society (MRS) for 2017
On January 1, Susan Trolier-McKinstry (The Pennsylvania State University) assumed the presidency of the Materials Research Society (MRS) for 2017, after serving as vice president/president-elect for 2016. She succeeded Kristi S. Anseth (University of Colorado Boulder), who now serves MRS as immediate past president.

El cambio primordial en un molino superconductor está en el generador. “En lugar de cobre y hierro en su interior hay cintas de segunda generación, unos filamentos superconductores”, explica Xavier Obradors, director del Icmab. No solo los filamentos no pierden energía, sino que tampoco se calientan, por lo que no se necesita la maquinaria de enfriamiento que precisan los metales tradicionales.
My name is Eulàlia and I'm from Rubí (Barcelona). I got my BSc in Chemistry and my MSc in Industrial Chemistry and Chemical Research at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. I'm going to stay at ICMAB as a PhD student during the following 3 years, in the Solid State Chemistry group under the supervision of Prof. Nieves Casañ-Pastor and Dr. Dino Tonti working in the "electrochemistry, electroactive materials - synthesis, doping, energy storage and bio" research line.
In my spare time I love travelling abroad, listening to music and playing it (I play the piano and the flute since I was a child) and I also love resolving puzzles and enigmas (I'm an "escape room" addict!!! You can ask me for more information about this kind of games :P).
I'm really looking forward to meet you all and share good moments and experiences!!! I'll see you soon in ICMAB :)
The Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC) will coordinate the first MSCA-COFUND programme awarded to CSIC
- The doctoral fellowship programme DOC-FAM will allow the mobility of 22 PhD students in the field of functional advanced materials.
- ICMAB-CSIC, IMB-CNM-CSIC, ICN2, IREC and ALBA Synchrotron will host these fellows within a period of 5 years.
- The total budget of the programme is 3.453.120€, of which 50% will be covered by the EC grant..
This week ICMAB participates actively in the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, which is on February 11

A sensor platform to detect heavy metals has been developed within the COMMON SENSE project and presented during its final event, last Friday 27th January. The partners that participated in the development of this sensor platform are Dublin City University (DCU), DropSens, National Center of Microelectronics (CNM-IMB) (CSIC), and the Nanoparticles and Nanocomposites Group (NN) at ICMAB (CSIC).
This year, Chinese New Year - The Year of the Rooster - begins on Saturday January 28 and lasts until February 15th, 2018. The new year, also known as the Spring Festival, is marked by the lunisolar Chinese calendar, so the date changes from year to year. The festivities usually start the day before the New Year and continue until the Lantern Festival, the 15th day of the new year. Each Chinese New Year is characterised by one of 12 animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac.The Chinese zodiac is divided into 12 blocks (or houses) just like its western counterpart, but with the major difference being that each house has a time-length of one year instead of one month.
