Ignasi Fina, Young Researchers First Prize at the Biennial Meeting of the RSEF

Ignasi Fina, Postoctoral Researcher at the MULFOX group at ICMAB, has been awarded with the First Prize of the Young Researchers Award - Postdoctoral Researchers category, for his contribution to the XXXXI Biennial Meeting of the RSEF (Real Sociedad Española de Física) 2017 and for his excellent research career.

The award included a Plenary Lecture, which Ignasi gave on "Cloacking magnetic information" during the Symposium on "Quantum Materials and Technologies", organized by the GEFES (Grupo Especializado de Física del Estado Sólido de la RESEF).  In addition, Ignasi gave a talk on "Time dependent adjustable magnetoelectric coupling" on July 17. The XXXXI Biennial Meeting of the RSEF 2017 takes place between 17-21 July 2017 in Santiago de Compostela (Spain).ignasifinarsef

Ignasi Fina's research interests focus on new materials for sustainable elecronic devices and energy harvesting devices, two of the main challenges in the nowadays society. In particular, on the electrical control of magnetic order in antiferromagnets to develop energy efficient devices, and on the use of photoferroelectrics for sun energy harvesting applications.

Ignasi finished his PhD in 2012 at ICMAB on multiferroic materials and magnetoelectric effect. Since then he has been a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Max Planck Institute of Microstructure (Germany), at the University of Warwick (UK), and at the Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia (Spain), before coming back to ICMAB on March 2016 to continue his Postdoctoral Research.

He has more than 50 published papers in high impact journals, such as Nature Materials, Nature Communications, Physical Review Letters and Advanced Materials, which accumulate nearly 1000 citations. He has also developed some projects with the industry, which include an antiferromagnetic USB desktop memory and piezoelectric sensors for car classification.

One of Ignasi's main objectives is to develop invisible magnetic memories, the topic of his plenary lecture at the #Bienal_RSEF
